Skills on the Hill is seeking motivated candidates for an Internship to support our therapeutic summer group programs for children with special needs in Washington, DC. This structured, hands-on internship provides meaningful exposure to pediatric therapy while working alongside licensed therapists in a supportive clinical environment.
Our summer programs run from late June through mid-August at our Capitol Hill (Washington, DC) and Arlington, VA clinic locations during morning hours. Interns assist with group-based programming and serve as a consistent second adult within each therapy group.
This internship is ideal for students pursuing careers in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Psychology, Education, or related developmental fields. While unpaid, cumulative hours may be used toward graduate school application requirements or college course credit, when applicable.
Program Schedule
Program Duration: Nine weeks (Late June through mid-August)
- Week 1: June 22
- Week 2: June 29
- Week 3: July 6
- Week 4: July 12
- Week 5: July 20
- Week 6: July 27
- Week 7: August 3
- Week 8: August 10
- Week 9: August 17

Intern Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:45 AM – 1:15 PM
Minimum Commitment: Two full weeks required
Interns participate in orientation, receive written procedures, and are supervised throughout the program. Reliability and consistent attendance are essential, as interns play an important role in supporting each therapy group.

Education: high school
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program related to OT, PT, SLP, psychology, education, or a related field
- Interest in working with children with special needs
- Ability to commit to a minimum of two full weeks (Monday–Friday mornings)
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
- Ability to follow supervision and written procedures

Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily set-up and clean-up of therapeutic activities and materials
- Prepare supplies and equipment according to the group schedule
- Support therapists during structured group sessions
- Provide scaffolding and hands-on support to children with special needs to promote progress and independence
- Assist with daily living tasks including snack time, toileting, and backpack packing/unpacking
- Support children during yoga, obstacle courses, crafts, circle time, and other therapeutic activities
- Help maintain a safe, structured, and engaging group environment
- Follow established procedures and therapist guidance at all times
