Muscular Weakness

Your child may be experiencing muscular weakness due to genetics or developed muscular weakness due to an injury or disorder.

Some children do develop slower than others, and that’s normal. However, if you’re noticing that your child is taking longer than others to reach important motor milestones, there may be an underlying issue.

You might notice delayed acquisition of motor milestones, difficulty latching for feeding, difficulty eating, or decreased physical endurance.

How Skills on the Hill can help

At Skills on the Hill, our therapists understand and know how to treat various issues related to muscular weakness.

When you bring your child in for an evaluation, our therapists will review their medical history and complete a comprehensive assessment of skills using formal and information methods.

Therapy may involve targeted exercises to improve a child’s physical strength and stability, support through play exploration, as well as exercises and training to improve how they walk or run. In addition, therapy may also focus on hand skills and activities of daily living such as dressing.

Your child’s therapists will also put together an at-home exercise program so that you can continue to practice with your child away from the clinic.
